For the next step on the snail trail I’ve chosen another pattern from Fill-in Patterns from Sixteenth Century Blackwork Embroideries. This time in a dark olive green.
I’ll need to wait until I have better light to finish the other light-colored triangle, but I may be able to finish the triangle that mirrors this one tonight.
Again I am reminded of how this kind of stitching is like the journeys of our lives. Sometimes the way is easy to see and even our mistakes are simple to identify and correct. Other times the light is dim and it’s tough to see where to take the next stitch or step.
The triangle stitched today was much easier because there was a lot of contrast. I’m still having trouble, though, getting the back to look exactly like the front. I’m not too worried about it on this piece, however, because I think I’m going to use this for a pillow top so the back won’t be visible.
This afternoon Larissa and I went to the Signature Theater in Shirlington to see the musical The Visit starring Chita Rivera. It was a very unusual and interesting play. This was the first time I was in the Signature and it’s really neat the way it is set up. It’s a theater space that is very flexible and intimate and lends itself to lots of different configurations. I, of course, am always especially interested in the costumes and sets and wasn’t disappointed. Chita Rivera was very good in the starring role.
