I finished up my dyeing workshops on color values today. The fabrics turned out really pretty.
I chose to dye three fabrics red-violet in graduated solution strengths for light, medium, and dark values. These were done with the bowl method for fairly evenly dyed fabrics.
I then chose a slightly blue green in eight graduated solution strengths for a range of values. These were done with the cup method for a more mottled appearance.![]()
Both of these colors, in the range of values, will be the basis for my March TIF tessellation project.
Today I dyed red, blue and yellow fabrics with varying amounts of black for changes in chroma. I also did a nine-stage color run between yellow and violet to get a broad range of browns, some of which I hope will be appropriate to use in the TIF project. Tomorrow I’m planning to do the 8-value dye run with black to create a gray scale.
These fabrics will cure overnight and I’ll be able to see how they turn out tomorrow.
